Roadford Reservoir in the idyllic setting
of Broadwoodwidger in Devon
hosted the 2004 inland championship.
Seventeen Trios, most of which appeared
to have come from Exmouth! . .
joined us together with Versas and one Zero. While the Trios went
off and did
their own thing the rest of us were set off together. In the first
race a gusty force 3
wind provided an interesting challenge.
Andy Simmons in his Versa just beat Frank and Glynis Oliver with Stephen
Linton
third. Race two saw a reversal of the first race with a win for Frank
and Glynis,
Andy second and Ian Hewer third. As the wind died away in the third
race.
Stephen Linton came through to beat Andy Simmons with Ian third.
Day two dawned without a breath of wind
but by the time racing started a slight
breeze had developed. This clearly suited the inland Duo sailors compared
with
those of us who normally race on the sea. Jon Vincent clearly preferred
these
conditions in Duo 188 with excellent sails in races 4 & 5 but
could not overcome
Stephen Linton who showed why he is the reigning national champion.
It was very enjoyable meeting with plenty
of opportunities to meet old friends
and make new ones - even if took a long while to tow a Duo from the
tip of Kent
to Broadwoodwidger - and even longer to get back!!
For the record the Frank and Glynis
Oliver won the Inland championship
and Stephen Linton was single handed champion.
